If it's good enough for the President...

October 26, 2009 | Rick Nashleanas

Monarch develops virtually all our web sites in Drupal, the powerful open source Content Management System. We are really Drupal fan boys (and girls). When I talk to folks who just want a full-featured web site, I start going on and on about Drupal and their eyes roll back in their head.

I’ve explained that the Emmys, Sony Music, Stanford, CNN and many more are using and depending on Drupal and its open source community to run their mission-critical web sites.

Over the last several days, the official White House web site was released and it is implemented in Drupal. President Obama’s administration has embraced open source software to lower costs and provide better value for the taxpayers. Here’s the Washington Post article.

My hope is that I can now stay on task when I’m talking with folks who need a web site. I won’t need to explain how to pronounce Drupal, define what open source software is, spell out why a CMS is needed for today’s web sites, and so on.

People I talk to just want to get their objectives accomplished on the web. I would love to have the conversation go something like this:

We use Drupal to develop our web sites.”

Great. I’ve heard of that. Did the White House go with that?”

Yes.”

Great site. And it’s free, right?”

Yes.”

Now, let’s talk about what we need…”
